Founder of Sol Pro Bassmasters. Taught the art of bass fishing by my dad Marvin Russell Sr. Ron a retired KCPD homicide detective was also instrumental in organizing the KCPD's bass club and named it, "The Scales Of Justice."
Sol Pro was organized for two main purposes, to teach the minority and youth the art of bass fishing, teaching them to read structure lake maps and the effects various weather fronts have on bass. Another purpose was to bridge the gap to eliminate the unwarranted prejudices that both races harbor by putting them together. Someday we will realize that we are all God's children and prejudice is a " learned" behavior.
I personally have experience several acts of prejudice in those early seventies, finding myself as the only black on various lakes in the ozark region. I recall on one occasion upon returning to the dock in my boat, my boat trailer was unhooked from my vehicle and the trailer was shoved in the lake, not to mention the numerous "N" words iv'e been called.
One thing I have come to realize, it is only about 5% of those ignorant people both black and white that engage in stupid acts of this nature, the unfortinuate thing is you only hear of those 5%. Fellowship and understanding go a long way. Sol Pro invites black, white, purple and female to join a real organization with a real purpose.
What you do is not an issue as long as it's legal and you are drug free. Sol Pro has already lost one of our best members to drowning however it was not on a club event.
